The attack method turns PCs into the so-called zombie proxies through normally legitimate programs. Microsoft says the attack is already in the wild and has infected multiple computers in Europe and the United States. In separate reports last week, Microsoft and Cisco Talos highlighted the new attack method. Aside from banding the term zombie proxies, Microsoft calls the attack “Nodersok”. Cisco Talos has named the new cyber threat “Divergent”. “The campaign is particularly interesting not only because it employs advanced fileless techniques, but also because it relies on an elusive network infrastructure that causes the attack to fly under the radar....

Users who archive vast data such as camera footage, logs, audio, and documents may not need quick access to data. Microsoft says the new Azure Archive Blob Storage will sit alongside its current cold and hot blob storage tiers. With archival tiers, data is not readily available. Instead, developers must retrieve the content, which can take up to 15 hours. Microsoft describes Archive Blob Storage as a cost effective solution for organizations....

However, the Office 365 ecosystem has evolved quite a bit recently, and Enterprise K1 users haven’t seen all of the benefits. Today, Microsoft is addressing that, with the inclusion of several new services. According to the notice, the dividend will be paid on December 8, 2022, while shareholders of records will get it on November 17, 2022. As for the ex-dividend data, it is set for November 16, 2022. Microsoft also put a date on its 2022 Annual Shareholders Meeting. That will go ahead on December 13, 2022. Yes, it seems Microsoft will have to send out one more public patch post end-of-support. Specifically, the company says KB4534310 is causing users of Windows 7 to experience issues with their wallpaper. Microsoft says, “After installing KB4534310, your desktop wallpaper might display as black when set to Stretch.” Users report the problem appears to be limited to wallpapers that are stretched to fit Windows 7. In other words, the fill, fit, tile, and center wallpaper options are still working on the platform....

With help from the tech giant, Ola aims to raise around $150-200 million. According to sources close to the discussions, a deal is likely to be announced within 15 days. Neither Ola nor Microsoft has officially commented on the rumor. It is worth noting Microsoft and the transport company are already partners. Microsoft says the problem is affecting all markets but not all machines or accounts. The company adds the problem has been live since 8:30AM PST. “Some users might be experiencing problems with instant messages (chat). There might be delays with sending or syncing messages,” the company explains on the Skype Status website. Updates will be posted throughout the day to keep users in the loop on the problem, potential downtime, a fix, and when Skype Instant Messaging will return to normal....

By association, this clearly meant the Surface Neo, but Microsoft never officially said so. Well, that has changed, and the company has now update documentation showing the Neo is delayed. On the product page for the device, Microsoft has removed the part that says “Coming Holiday 2020”. There is now no timeframe for when we can expect to see the Surface Neo. Microsoft wants to put a focus on Windows 10X and not the device....

The answer was affirmative, so gamers with 1440p monitors will enjoy a resolution bump over 1080p. While Huawei is not as popular on PC, it still has millions of laptops running Microsoft’s Windows 10 platform. Owners of Huawei laptops must now be wondering if Microsoft will block Windows 10 updates on their machines. The US government has gone to war on the Chinese company and has made it clear companies are expected to block Huawei or pay a fee to work with the brand. It is unclear if Microsoft will decide to follow Google, but it seems likely the company may block Windows updates to Huawei laptops....

Yesterday the Redmond giant began rolling out its Creators Update to the console, bringing tons of new features and improvements. Among them were changes to the Xbox app, which received Beam notifications on iOS and more. However, the update also did something users typically hate – it removed features. The OneGuide functionality curates TV shows and live channels for console viewing, and the TV remote can control those with ease....

In the latest round is Microsoft Defender good or bad, the suite is getting another win to fit into the “good” category. Specifically, AV-TEST has found that Microsoft Defender is one of the best antivirus solutions at preventing ransomware attacks. In its February 2022 (the latest) Advanced Threat Protection Test Against Ransomware, AV-TEST found Defender is seriously impressive for home users and in enterprises: “The Advanced Threat Protection tests provide vendors and users with substantial findings as to how securely a product can protect against ransomware in real-life scenarios....

Reports point to a Russia-backed threat group have placed malware on the company’s Orion application. This app is used by SolarWinds users for network monitoring purposes. The company later confirmed the app versions 2019.4 to 2020.2.1 were breached with the Solorigate malware. Microsoft was quick to pick up on the problem. The Redmond giant placed protocols for detecting the malware. These were limited to simply sending alerts to Microsoft Defender users....

“Some games and apps might experience lower than expected performance or stuttering on Windows 11, version 22H2,” Microsoft noted at the time. “Affected games and apps are inadvertently enabling GPU performance debugging features not meant to be used by consumers.” Microsoft did not detail which specific games were seeing performance issues, but it was clearly enough. The company quickly issued an update block for affected systems, preventing them from upgrading to Windows 11 2022 Update....
